Next Sunday sees the Spur Trail Series® return to Gauteng after a hugely successful winter Series in June where all races sold out and the popularity of trail running in the Highveld reached new heights. The Spur Trail Series® has grown from strength to strength since its launch in 2008 when only about 100 runners took part in the Gauteng Series. Nowadays, an average of 850 runners show up on race day and the upcoming Series won’t be any different.
The competition is sure to be fierce as some of Gauteng’s top trail runners will line up on the start line, but the primary focus at the Spur Trail Series® is always fun and that is sure to be at a premium this year again. Runners can expect an awesome atmosphere, well-marked routes, beautiful views, fresh air and all-in-all a great day out.
The Spur Trail Series® has become known as the perfect place to start your trail running experience. It is a true family event that is open to everyone, from novice trail runners to experienced campaigners, no matter how young or old, and a great family morning out. All venues are in the Magaliesberg area and approximately one hour’s drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The series kicks off next Sunday, 25 October with the first of four races taking place at the ever popular Hennops River. Entries for the first race are still available online at www.trailseries.co.za and runners can choose between a long course of approximately 12km and a short course of almost 7km as well as the XL of 20km. A new face in the Gauteng Spur Trail Series® events is Leeuwenkloof, which will host the final race of the Series. This is only the second time that the Spur Trail Series® will travel to this exciting venue and runners can once again look forward to a ramble through a deserted mine to top of their Spur Trail Series® experience.
This year’s event dates and venues are:
- 25 October at Hennops River (including XL)
- 1 November at Segwati Game Ranch
- 8 November at B’Sorah Tented Camp
- 6 December at Leeuwenkloof
