Lydenburg Heritage Race

Trail run description – 2020
This inaugural trail run will surely bring high altitude thin air trails back to trail runners!
As our early pioneers, British and Boer foot soldiers, you will experience what they felt when they had to run up the Lydenburg ridges to the fortresses overlooking our panoramic town.
You will start at “Ground Zero “and follow the old historical Eucalyptus lane. This is a gradual accent on some loose gravel. After about 1km you move away from the Roets/Reserve boundary. Use the switchback farm roads as points to lower your heart rate and pace. Sprint past the ROETS homestead to avoid there “big-ass’dogs!
Keep up the pace because as you pass the Tilapia reservoir you are in Sniper shooting range from the British fortresses on the Trail ridges.
Once you pass lone tree gate you are ascending parallel to the Longtompass. You will cross through a donga and ascend on single track that will make the sexiest legs sweat! The fattest legs wobble and the oldest legs vrot!
The water point is closest to the Longtom pass and then you are rewarded with the scampering single track on the watershed passing through the old fortresses once guarding the town. This is at 1707m and after ONLY 3 – 4 km. Soak up the view as you run over the shale ridges.
One last ascent up parallel to the reserve fence and then you get to run the rim trail dropping into the reserve.
Navigate to poacher’s entrance and run like you stole it!!!
You descend on our local Gravity MTB trails through the famous ‘bombgat’’ and across Safari bridge. This is a fast descent on the flowing single track will make your shins and quads burn. At 6,5km you will cross the MTB race route! Be cautious and keep your road rage down!
You will leg it past and old car and the ‘rectum’ rocky trail (don’t ask). Somewhere in this piece you would cross the MTB race route again. Look out for the Martials warnings!
At about 6,5km you still are descending but slowly getting into busy trails with acacia veld. Here you have a standard CHEEKY CLIMB for about 300m. Turn right and down to the end!
A monster trail with historical memories!
